Greek Religion

  • Religion was important to the ancient Greeks because they believed that it would make their lives better while they were living.

  • They believed the gods would take care of them when they died. ("Apollo" God of light, purity, music, guidance and music)

  • Their religion reflected many central ideas and concepts of earlier forms.

  • They worshipped many gods whom they believed appeared in human form.

  • The Greeks had no word for religion itself, the nearest term being eusebeia.
