Greek Theater

· The plays were performed during religious festivals, to honor Dionysus, one of their gods.
· The plays were performed by a chorus and only 3 actors no matter how many characters the story had.
· There were play competitions and they were voted with 1st, 2nd or 3rd place. It was a great honor to get the first place.
· Almost all of their tragedies were about myths and the past, and their comedies were about current issues and problems.
· Theatres where divided into four major spaces: the orchestra, which was where the chorus sang, danced and interacted with the actors; the skene, which was a tent in the back of the stage, decorated as a castle, house or other depending on where the play was taking place; the theatron, which was where people sat; and the parods, which were used by actors and the chorus to enter and exit during the play, and it was also used by the people to enter and exit the theatre.
· The Greeks became famous for their plays.
